The featured speaker for the final 2009 meeting is a familiar name with many Tiger fans. As a junior, Jim Houston became a starter on the 1954 team that won a state championship.  In his senior season in 1955 he was named to the All-Ohio team.

Houston says he became motivated after being cut from his seventh grade team and didn’t give up on a dream of becoming a Tiger. “I was too small. Too slow. Too everything. The great thing about it was my mom told me to try the next year. I made All-City as a ninth grader. You can’t get any better than Massillon, period. Massillon is it.”  His older brother, Lin, had played at Massillon and would later star at  Ohio State and as an offensive guard on the first eight Browns teams from 1946-53 under Paul Brown. His brother Walt played for the Redskins. Another brother, Jack, might have had pro potential had he not severely injured his knee.
